Motive Power
From the smallest tank engines of the pioneering years to some of the largest locomotives ever to thunder across the islands, motive power on the Caerwyn railways has evolved constantly to meet changing demands. As trains became heavier and industries expanded, increasingly powerful steam locomotives appeared — culminating in the mighty NGG16 Garratts, specially imported to handle the enormous military traffic generated by the Ministry of Defence. Steam eventually gave way to diesel, but innovation certainly didn’t stop there. Elegant Art Deco-inspired express railcars whisked passengers between the islands’ principal towns, while small, nippy narrow-gauge Pacer DMUs became a familiar sight on everyday passenger services. From diminutive steam engines pottering along remote branch lines to Garratts tackling heavy freight and railcars criss-crossing the network, we’ll gradually model and document the extraordinary machines that have powered the railways of the Caerwyn Isles.
NOTE: Work in progress. As each locomotive has a dedicated page it will be linked to from here. Keep up to date with our progress documenting the railways of Glynoch and Rathmor by joining our newsletter.
